Comfort for kitchen islands and home bars

As open-plan kitchens become more social, counter seating needs to work for coffee, casual meals and conversation. Tommy Franks stools bring the comfort cues of a dining chair to a taller silhouette, using shaped seats, supportive backs and well-placed footrests. Slender frames preserve sightlines across the room, while more enveloping designs add softness around hard cabinetry and stone worktops. The balance of comfort and visual lightness helps the seating feel integrated rather than added as an afterthought.

Texture and colour at counter height

Bouclé and woven neutrals introduce warmth to sleek kitchens, while velvet offers richer colour and a more polished finish. Leather-look upholstery in honey, cognac, tan or black creates a tailored contrast with pale stone and painted cabinetry. Grey, cream and taupe keep the palette quiet; olive or navy can repeat an accent used in artwork, lighting or nearby lounge furniture. Fine metal or timber elements provide structure and help connect the stools to the wider material scheme.

Getting stool height and spacing right

Measure from the floor to the underside of the counter before choosing, then compare that dimension with the stated seat height: counter stools and bar stools are not interchangeable. As a useful guide, leave roughly 25–30 cm between the seat and the underside of the surface, while checking the product's exact dimensions. Allow comfortable elbow room between each stool and make sure arms or backrests do not obstruct circulation. The right proportions will make the whole island feel more balanced.
