Rope and Pulley Chandelier
Replace electricity with wax candles and we can picture this chandelier suspended in a medieval banqueting hall, casting a glow over feasting and merriment around a heavy oak table… Or perhaps imagine it rigged up in a Victorian laboratory, electrical current fizzing through the recently invented Edison light bulbs...
Either way there is a real sense of history and drama to this stunning feature light. Materials are strong and dark. The cast iron frame, uncompromising and angular, exudes strength and resilience, almost as if it might have been around for centuries.
Fourteen Edison style light bulbs are attached, with all electrical fittings cleverly hidden away. And now we get to the intriguing part – for while the frame is all about rigidity, the suspension system introduces a flexibility and a new tensile strength – with lengths of hefty fibrous jute rope suspending the frame from a central axis point.
It would be simple to call this light ‘industrial’, but it is much more than that, evoking as it does, a sense of history and times gone by. The overall effect is a stunning, mighty design.
And with a style that somehow takes us back in time, we feel it is the perfect light fitting to bring character and depth to a contemporary home.
Perhaps especially we can picture it in a loft or country style living space with exposed timbers, stone or brick – where the chandelier’s angular strength would contrast and enhance the warmth and softness of natural materials.
